Thread Types

As the material in which the tapestry of fate is woven, threads are the key in this system. But not all threads are the same. There are in fact six different types of threads. Each type has its own characteristics and meanings that vary depending on the context. Also, not all types are equally common. From least to most common, the types are:

Please note that this section is under construction. As a non-native english speaker I still have to refine the words I used to describe each type, and carefully consider the ones I will use in the remaining characteristics.

Metal (~2%)

The fated.

Metal is not something you are supposed to weave with. It is not easy to work with. As such, all the other types end up woven around it. Metal threads are not bent by destiny, they are the guides around which destiny is formed.

Metal threads are the rarest of all. They are the threads of those born on the 24 hour window around a solstice or equinox, or during certain eclipses 1.

Silk (~7%)

The enchanter.

Silk threads represent fluidity, allure, and transformation. However, silk is also fragile and delicate.

Silk threads are reserved for those born during the first complete moon cycle of the austral summer. That is the period between the first and second new moons after December's solstice.

Wool (~8%)

The protector.

Wool is associated with warmth, dependability and protection.

Wool threads are reserved for those born during the first complete moon cycle of the austral winter. That is the period between the first and second new moons after June's solstice.

Linen (~16%)

The bridge.

Linen is associated with connection between people, ideas, and situations. Because of that, it can also represent wisdom, and flexibility.

Linen threads are assigned to those born during the first complete moon cycles of fall and spring. That is the period between the first and second new moons after March and September's equinoxes.

Jute (~17%)

The endurer.

Jute is associated with resilience, grounding, and the end of cycles.

Linen threads are assigned to those born between the last new moon before a solstice or equinox and that same solstice or equinox. Since that period can be as long as 27 days, and as short as seconds, this is the type with the biggest variation of window size between years.

Cotton (~50%)

The thread of life.

Cotton in the most common thread type. It is associated with adaptability, continuity, and connection. It is also considered the thread that holds everything together.

Those born outside of the windows of the other types get cotton threads.
